Donald Dwight Glor

Don was a dedicated member of the Belmont–San Carlos Fire Department from September 1975 until his retirement in July 2005. He also proudly served his country as a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

One of Don’s most meaningful and rewarding accomplishments was his work in the early days of the San Mateo County Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Team. His commitment and leadership set him apart. Don worked tirelessly—often late into the night—to organize and build the HazMat unit into the team it is today. He developed training procedures, inventory control systems, decontamination protocols, and HazMat suit testing procedures. In recognition of his collective efforts, Don was awarded Firefighter of the Year in 1991.

Firefighter Glor also served as one of the first fire-based paramedics in San Mateo County.

Don passed away from a job-related cancer on January 2, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Valorie, and his two adult children, Rhianna and Flax Glor, as well as many friends.

He will always be remembered as someone you could depend on—someone who always had your back. He was also known for his musical talents, playing guitar and drums, and for his amazing vocals.
